Once in Cusco, head down to the Sacred Valley and like its name mentions, it is a valley surrounded by Inca complexes, productive lands and beautiful terraces plenty of history and culture from ancient times. You will appreciate the richness and colorfulness of the culture once you visit Awanacancha and its textile workshops. Our program will take you all the way from the Andes to the Amazon, four trekking days where you will be spell bound with the incredible landscape and archaeological places that you will see along the way. WELCOME TO LIMA
Upon your arrival into Lima international airport, our English-speaking host will be waiting for you to welcome and assist you and take you to your hotel near the airport for a good night’s rest.
LIMA / CUSCO / SACRED VALLEY
In the morning, our staff will escort you to Lima airport to catch your domestic flight to Cusco.
Upon your arrival, our guide will welcome you and prepare you for the much awaited Sacred Valley tour.
Your first stop will be the exceptional project of Awanakancha (Quechua word that means: big place where people weave) where you observe how people –following their ancestors techniques- weave and create wonderful textiles.
Then you will visit the Archeological Complex of Pisaq, including ornate palaces and temples, on top of a mountain with breath taking views.
You will be delighted with a delicious lunch in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
Then, we will continue through the valley until we finally arrive at your hotel surrounded by gorgeous scenery.
PISCACUCHO TO WAYLLABAMBA
Early in the morning, you will start the mighty Inca Trail. Your Guide and luxury transport will pick you up from your hotel to take you to Piscacucho which is 20 minutes away from Ollantaytambo.
Here you will meet your chef and support staff who will accompany you during the whole trek. From KM 82 (2700m, 8850ft) you will make your way to the Wayllabamba Campsite. The first two hours of the trek are a lightly paced climb until you reach Miskay, a beautiful area where your chef and porters will have lunch ready and waiting for you. After lunch, you will have a 3-4 hours (depending on pace) uphill climb. Along the way, you will have a stunning overview of the first Incan complex of the Inca trail named Llactapata which is a site that has been used primarily for agricultural production.
Here, you will have a great opportunity to stop and take some photos and learn some interesting facts about the History of the place.
At the end of the day, you will arrive to the village of Wayllabamba where the chef and porters will have your dinner waiting for you and your tents set up and ready. Now you have the rest of time to relax and get a goodnight rest.
WAYLLABAMBA TO PACAYMAYO
In the morning, you will be awoken to be refreshed with hot water in front of your tent. Then you will enjoy a filling nutritious breakfast to prepare you for the big day ahead of you.
Today, you will start from an altitude of 3000m or 9850ft and climb up for over five hours to reach an altitude of 4200m or 13800ft at the Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point of the Inca trail from where you will have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Andean mountains and its surroundings.
After completing the toughest part of the Inca Trail, you have an hour descent before reaching the next stop where your chef and porters will have lunch prepared and ready enjoy.
After lunch, you have another hour descent before reaching the Pacaymayo Campsite where you will have the rest of the day to relax. In the evening, you will enjoy tasty and filling dinner cooked by your chef.
PACAYMAYO TO WIÑAYWAYNA
First you will have breakfast, and then you will continue hiking through the Inca Trail.
On our way will pass by several archaeological sites. First you will reach the second highest pass named Runkuracay (3900m or 12800ft) where you will visit the beautiful circular walled complex which was thought to be a stable and resting place for couriers and their animals on the Inca Trail.
From here, you will also have a stunning view of the surrounding mountains such as Salkantay and Veronica snowy peaks.
After reaching this pass, the rest of the day is mostly down the mountain, following the amazing original paths constructed during the Incan period and passing through original tunnels.
You will be able to visit Sayaqmarca considered as an inaccessible old Incan town that sits on top of a sheer cliff.
After Sayaqmarca, you will follow the Inca trail to the next beautiful Inca complex of Phuyupatamarka which was believed to be an important religious site that contained sacred baths for ceremonial purposes.
You will have a delicious lunch here, and then you will go down stairs until the site of Wiñaywayna this is where our next campsite is and where you will have the rest of the night to relax. In the evening, the chef will prepare an exquisite dinner before you go to the bed.
WIÑAYHUAYNA TO MACHU PICCHU
We will be starting early to continue along the Inca Trail. We will need to walk upwards for an hour and a half to reach the Sun Gate, ‘Intipunku’, where you will have finally arrived at Machu Picchu.
Congratulations, you will have officially completed the Inca Trail and be rewarded with a majestic view of Machu Picchu, the ‘Lost City of the Incas’.
Here, you will be able to look over the entire site of Machu Picchu and the beautiful mountain of Huayna Picchu. Now you can take a short walk down the path until arriving to explore the citadel of Machu Picchu. At this sacred Incan site, you will learn about the history and visit the truly remarkable Temples and other complexes inside. You will also see the aqueducts and houses while you’re learning some interesting facts about the Incan Sacred Terraces. After your guided tour in Machu Picchu, you will have plenty of time to explore this truly magnificent site on your own.
You could even visit the Inca Bridge, a secret entrance that is said it was used by the Incan Army. As an option, you may want to climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain; there are only 400 spaces daily, so you may want to book in advance with us. In the afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes where you will spend a night in a hotel.
MACHU PICCHU TO CUSCO
Now you have the chance to visit and see Machu Picchu again on your own. Now you will be able to enjoy one of the many short trekking options.
However, this program allows you to climb up to the summit of Huayna Picchu at either 7:00am or 10:00am. Nevertheless, there are also other alternative trekking options around Aguas Calientes town such as the easy walk to Mandor waterfalls or the more challenging Putucusi Mountain hike to get an impressive view of Machu Picchu citadel from a different angle.
In the afternoon, you have lunch in a restaurant nearby the train station; after lunch you will board the luxury train back to Ollantaytambo where our staff will be waiting for you to escort you to your Hotel in Cusco city.
After action packed days full of adventure, you will have the morning free to explore the city on your own; don’t forget to have breakfast at your hotel before walking around the city. By afternoon our first place to visit today will be the majestic complex of Sacsayhuaman, which continues to be a very important religious and ceremonial site from the Incan culture.
You will be astounded by the superb architectural achievements of the Incan civilization and you will be also impressed when envisioning how Incas moved and fitted each uniquely shaped stone weighing around 70 tons, so perfectly together and without any known “engineering tools”.
As part of our city tour in Cusco, you will also visit the Cusco Cathedral located in Plaza de Armas, the main square. Here you will see many very important holy Christian artefacts and artworks derived from “the Escuela Cusquena”. Your tour will then take you to the Temple of the Sun, “Qoricancha” located on the main avenue named Avenida el Sol (Avenue of the Sun). This Inca temple was one of the most worshiped and respected temples in the City of Cusco during Inca times.
Then you will be escorted to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
DEPARTURE FLIGHT FROM CUSCO BACK TO LIMA
The last day you will be transferred to Cusco airport to catch your domestic flight back to Lima. Upon your arrival, you will have plenty of time to check in at the airport for your international flight back home.
